Montego Bay based Artist Sharon Cunningham is often heard to say that it sometimes begins with a line. For her ongoing series “It’s Complicated”, she lays a series of lines on canvas or water colour paper, and then finds the shapes within. These become the anchor of her piece. Sharon works primarily with acrylics and her “Flora” paintings
Montego Bay based Artist Sharon Cunningham is often heard to say that it sometimes begins with a line. For her ongoing series “It’s Complicated”, she lays a series of lines on canvas or water colour paper, and then finds the shapes within. These become the anchor of her piece. Sharon works primarily with acrylics and her “Flora” paintings are interpretations of floral scenes. Her utilization of incredibly descriptive colour ends with a waltz of flowers across the finished canvas. Her range is vast, which is evident in her ability to create a piece that works within a fixed environment. Customized colour, character and style have made Sharon an artist in demand with many commissions coming from clients wanting to enhance their living space or work area.
With her pieces being appreciated both locally and abroad, word of her art has spread in Europe, and Sharon has developed quite a loyal following.
I work with acrylics on canvas and water colour paper, I also add hand cut mosaic pieces to my ballerina pieces , yes it would have been less time consuming to paint but why take the path of least resistance, where my creative soul leads I follow.
it’s complicated it really is, so for this series I start with a line then I lay down a series of random lines then stop.
it is within the lines that I find my inspiration, I often see shapes the beginning of a face the shape of an eye, The pieces are then brought to life through this process.
